This Bone China #501A Pink Lily Teacup and Saucer by Royal Chelsea is a showstopper! This pattern, numbered 501A, features large pink lilies with petals in shades of pale pink to deep rose as the main attraction of the decoration on this set. Each six petaled flower has a yellow center and raised green enameled dots. Adding to the drama of the blossoms is the striking contrast of the gold leaves that wind around both the cup and the saucer. Some of the leaves are in solid, shiny gold, while others are airy and look like spun gold. Three lilies with foliage are on the saucer, while the cup has one large blossom on each side and a third on the inside of the cup. This cup has the unusual added touch of a wisp of gold leaves on the inside opposite the flower. Neglecting no detail, the foot and handle of the cup and the scalloped edges of both pieces are all gilded.
This stunning tea cup measures 2-1/2 inches tall and 3-1/2 inches in diameter across the fluted rim, with another inch for the handle. It stands on a 1-7/8 inch scalloped foot. The matching saucer is 5-3/4 inches in diameter.
Each piece is stamped in black with the arching "Royal Chelsea" followed by an anchor and the words "English Bone China, Made in England." The pattern number "501A" is also hand painted on the bottom of the cup. There is an old piece of tape over the mark on the saucer with a handwritten name on it.
Made by Royal Chelsea between 1951 and 1961, there is only very slight wear on the gold trim and no other condition issues.
