Offered here is an attractive blue Peony and Rose Bread and Butter plate by Myott, England. As the name implies the Peony & Rose pattern is an all-over transferware pattern of large roses and peonies in monochromatic shades of blue. The intertwined stems and leaves are also done in the same shades of blue.
This bread and butter plate measures 6-1/4 inches in diameter.
It is stamped with a blue underglaze crown above the words "Myott, Son & Co, England, Peony & Rose, Made in England." This mark dates to as early as 1936. The company closed in 1978.
As in most vintage pieces, there are normal, small surface scratches. There is also an indentation beneath the glaze along the edge. Since the uninterrupted pattern runs over this dip, it was clearly done in the manufacturing process.
