A stunningly beautiful combination of green and gold decorates this Royal Chelsea English Bone China tea cup and saucer. This ivy pattern is number 426A.
Ivy leaves in varying sizes and twist and trail all around this cup and saucer on vines of gold. The rims of both pieces are decorated with gold dots, and the scalloped edges are also gilded. The handle and the foot are gold encrusted, and a little curl of gold is on the sides of the handle. A single three lobed leaf with gold accents is also on the inside top of the cup.
The tea cup measures 2-1/2 inches tall and 3-1/2 inches in diameter across the fluted rim, with another inch for the handle. It stands on a 1-7/8 inch scalloped foot. The matching saucer is 5-5/8 inches in diameter.
Each piece is stamped in black with the arching "Royal Chelsea" followed by an anchor and the words "English Bone China, Made in England." There is also a hand written pattern number 426/A on the cup.
Made by the New Chelsea Porcelain Company, Royal Chelsea was one of their trade names in use between 1943 and 1951.
There are a couple of truly pinhead size spots on the leaves of the saucer where white shows through, and there is minor wear on the gold of the foot and the handle. There is no other damage to this gorgeous set.
