This sweet Lord Nelson Ware Gold Chintz Stacking Tea Set is decorated with an all-over gold floral chintz motif. The set consists of the teapot, creamer, handled sugar, and one lid that fits both the teapot and the sugar at the top of the stack. The handled sugar could also be used as a teacup. The chintz is overlaid with multi-color floral bouquets of pinks, blues, yellows, oranges, and greens on opposite sides of each diminutive piece. The handles and rims are gold lined.
Measuring 6-inches tall when stacked together, the teapot is 2-3/4 inches tall to the rim, about 3-inches with the cover on, and almost 7-inches from handle to spout. It is 4-1/2 inches in diameter. The sugar and the creamer are each 1-1/2-inches tall to the rim and about 3-inches in diameter. The creamer is 4-1/4 inches across the handle and pouring lip.
Issued under the trade name Lord Nelson Ware, England, the bottoms of the three pieces are each stamped in black under the glaze "BCM/Nelson Ware Made in England." A Gold Circle reading “Lord Nelson Ware Made In England,” is stamped over the BCM mark. The pattern number “2528” is in the center of the circle, also in gold. This mark and the Lord Nelson trade name was used by Elijah Cotton Ltd. from the 1930s to the 1950s.
As is common in Chintzware, there is non-discolored crazing covering each piece, and there is a small dark spot on the inside of the pouring lip of the creamer. There are no chips or cracks, and any wear on the gold is truly minimal.
