This is the beautiful Dresden Sprays Bone China Teacup and Saucer by Hammersley, England. Evoking similar patterns from Germany, intricately detailed multicolored Dresden flowers decorate the inside of the cup as well as the saucer. The lower half of the inside of the cup has a large bouquet of the familiar floral motif featuring a purple tulip and an open wild rose. The gold lined rim of each piece features a field of flowers similar to the bottom of the teacup, intersected by four cartouches outlined in gold laurel wreaths, each with a tiny, different color flower spray. The inner ring of the saucer has five small matching blossoms. The rim of the saucer, as well as the rim and foot and handle of the cup, are all trimmed in gold, with a single gold band ringing the outside of the teacup.
The lovely teacup is 3-7/8 inches in diameter and 2-inches tall; the foot of the cup is 1-7/8 inches in diameter. The saucer is 5-1/2 inches in diameter.
Both pieces are stamped in elaborate red script “Dresden Sprays/Bone China/Made in England/by Hammersley” with a crown.
Based on the mark, this set was made by Hammersley circa 1939 to the 1950s.
There are minimal surface scratches caused by normal use. Other than expected shelf wear on the underside of the foot, there are no other condition issues.
