The Sponge Effect in the pink glaze of this Aynsley Bone China #C171 Floral center Teacup and Saucer is so unusual! This slightly waisted teacup and matching saucer are decorated with a deep pink sponge effect glaze covering the outside of the cup and the wide rim of the saucer. The mottled pink glaze has a slight texture and ranges in color from light to deep rose-pink. The white center of the saucer and the inside top of the cup are decorated with a multicolored floral design of a pink rose, yellow daffodil, and assorted blue and yellow flowers and greenery. The scalloped rims of both pieces, as well as the foot and handle of the cup and the cup ring on the saucer are all gold trimmed.
The York shape teacup stands just under 2-1/2 inches tall and 3-1/4 inches in diameter at the rim, tapering to an applied 1-3/4 inch shallow foot. The matching saucer measures 5-1/2 inches in diameter.
The backstamp is the familiar Green Crown above the Aynsley Scroll, followed by "England." The words "Bone China" flank the crown. This mark was used by Aynsley circa the 1920s to 1939.
