This Strasbourg gold and red scrolls Bone China Demitasse cup and saucer by Royal Doulton is the picture of simple elegance. The rim of both the cup and the saucer are decorated with ornate gold scrolls of trailing leaves that have maroon accents. Tiny maroon flowers are scattered among the leaves. The scroll-shaped edge of the saucer and the foot of the cup are trimmed with gold scrolls, and the rim of the cup and the handle are both gold trimmed.
The dainty cup is 2-1/4 inches tall, 2-3/4 inches in diameter, with a 1-1/4 inch foot. The matching saucer is 5-inches in diameter.
Strasbourg was made by Royal Doulton from 1959 to 1977. The backstamp, in gold, is the familiar Royal Doulton Lion and Crown over circle mark which reads "Made in England, Bone China, Royal Doulton, England" and includes "Strasbourg H 4958 Copyright Doulton & Co. Limited."
The edge of the foot has several minute nicks, commonly called fleabites, and feels a little rough. This is not readily noticeable without a magnifying glass, and there are no other condition issues.
