The beauty and quality of Fenton glass is evident in this gorgeous black flared console bowl! Fenton's pattern, #848, sometimes called "Tulip," consists of solid-colored glass, here in black, with eight flared points forming a star or flower shape.
This flared console bowl was made sometime between 1932 and 1936 in the nearly opaque colored glass known to collectors as Black Amethyst, because of its deep purple hue when held to the light.
This stunning bowl measures 8-3/4 inches in diameter and it is 3-1/2 inches tall. There is no mark.
It is so difficult to do justice to black glass in a photo because the glass magnifies every speck of dust and reflects like a mirror! Outside of numerous expected surface scratches from normal wear, there is no damage to this elegant piece.
