Never to be outdone, this Royal Chelsea #2242A Platinum Silver and Wild Strawberries Bone China Teacup and Saucer is "entirely hand decorated." Red Strawberries with green tops in raised enamel nestle among a profusion of highly reflective platinum leaves and vines that cover the outside of the cup and the wide rim of the saucer. The design is bordered with double bands of platinum on the rims and at the bottom of the design. The foot and handle are also platinum trimmed.
The teacup measures 2-7/8 inches tall and 3-inches in diameter across the slightly flared rim, with another inch for the unusual angled handle. It stands on a 1-7/8 inch foot. The matching saucer is 6-inches in diameter.
Each piece is stamped with the well-known Chelsea Anchor mark followed by the trade name “Royal Chelsea” in script, and the words “English Bone China, Made in England.” The words “Entirely Hand Decorated” are written in script above the anchor. This Royal Chelsea mark was used between 1943 and 1951 by the New Chelsea Company. The pattern number 2242A is handwritten in silver on the saucer.
Other than the expected minimal wear and patina of age, there are no condition issues. This is a gorgeous display set!
