This pair of breathtaking cobalt blue Depression Glass 2-Handle Plates are in the Mt. Pleasant pattern by L.E. Smith. In beautiful cobalt blue glass, these six-sided plates have a sweet indentation on the rim separating each side. A pair of fancy molded handles are fused to two opposite sides with the “Double Shield” shape that gave this pattern its nickname. A trio of faded platinum, silver-colored rings circle the center. Each has a 4-1/4 inch diameter raised circular foot.
Originally intended as an underplate, these plates make eye-catching small serving trays for delectable treats! It is hard to believe that these beauties were given away as premiums!
Each plate measures 7-inches in diameter and 9-inches across the handles. The circular foot raises each plate 1/4-inch off the table.
There is no mark. Made by LE Smith from the 1920s to 1934, Mt. Pleasant appears to be of higher quality than typical Depression Glass.
The platinum silver rings are worn with age, but there are no chips or cracks. The reddish tint in the photos is caused by reflection. As is common in vintage glassware, there are minor manufacturing flaws, but very few of the expected minor surface scratches.
