This Smith’s Old Timer White Opalescent Ruffled Art Glass Vase is a Mid Century piece made in Arkansas, though the style makes it appear older. The entire vase is done in a sweeping, white opalescent swirl. The real beauty, however, is in the crimped and ruffled, flower-shaped rim. This vase is a stunning piece of hand blown American Art Glass that would be beautiful for a vintage wedding or backyard party.
This exquisite vase measures 9-inches tall and 2-5/8 inches in diameter across the base, and about 5-inches across the crimped floriform rim.
It bears an embossed mark that is a challenge to read. It reads “Smith’s Old Timer, Hand Blown, Fort Smith, Ark.” Smith's Old Timer Glass operated in Fort Smith, Arkansas from the early 1960s until the early 1980s mainly producing multicolored swirled glassware.
There are two places nearly opposite each other on the top of the ruffled rim that feel rough. Each is about 1/2-inch long and runs right along the swirl line. I believe these are manufacturing flaws. They do not go through to the other side, and are not easily seen. There is also a large crease on the bottom below the mark. There are no other condition issues.
