This beautiful Naturalistic Open Rose Floral Oblong Celery Dish was Hand Painted and Signed by the artist, Mauville. Beautiful and life-like open roses in shades of white, cream, and gray have large centers in green and golden yellow dance on rose vines that ring the inner sides of the dish with realistic green leaves and a thorn here and there. The background is a soft cream shading to brown. The dish has pierced handles at each end, and the rim is edged with gold.
This pretty dish measures 8-3/8 inches long by 4-3/4 inches wide and 1-1/2 inches deep.
It is marked, but the mark on the back is so worn as to be illegible. There is a faint number 22 visible that may refer to the shape. The front is signed by the artist Mauville, indicating this dish was made circa the early 1900s.
There is slight wear in the design, and the gold rim is well-worn. There is also a circular spot that looks like a kiln mark in one of the leaves, but is probably a glaze pop. There are no cracks, chips, or crazing.
Mauville was known to have worked for PSAG, Schonwald, Germany, but I have been unable to positively identify the manufacturer. I'm so happy you stopped into Maggie Belle's Memories! Please ""Like"" us on Facebook for updates and fun information!
