This rust-colored Royal Paisley Chintz Pedestal Tidbit dish from Arnart Creations, Japan, will be a fun way to serve small treats at any time! The all-over rust paisley chintz motif that covers the top of the plate is an elaborate design of flowers and paisley scrolls in shades ranging from rust to brown to pale yellow. The plate has a scalloped rim that comes to a point in varying degrees at each scallop, and the rim is pierced with alternating diamond-shaped openings. The pedestal is attached to the plate with a screw mechanism and a thin piece of cork cushions the two pieces in between, and the foot of the pedestal is also bordered with the paisley design.
This dish measures 3-5/8 inches tall and 7-1/4 inches in diameter on a 2-5/8 inch diameter foot.
From Arnart Creations, Japan, circa the 1950s to 1970s, it still has the blue and gold foil label that bears a crown flanked by an upper case "A" on each side and the words “Original Arnart Creation Japan.” The back of the plate is also stamped in gold with a crown and the words “Royal Paisley 55/1711.” Arnart Creations was actually an importer based in New York City. Though their designs were meant to look like their finer European counterparts and garner a part of that market, Arnart pieces are becoming collectible in their own right.
There is a 1/8-inch shallow edge chip on the underside of one of the points of the rim and another, smaller nick on the underside of the adjacent point. Neither of these show from the top. The thin cork piece between the plate and the pedestal is worn and is missing pieces of cork around the edge. There are no other condition issues.
