This American Sweetheart Depression Glass Pink Rimmed Soup by MacBeth Evans is a fabulous find! American Sweetheart is a beguiling in-mold pattern of fancy medallions made up of stylized flowers, beads, and scrolls. It was very popular during the years it was produced, but it was also expensive by Depression standards. Therefore, sets of American Sweetheart were not as common as the giveaway items, and some pieces, like this soup bowl, are more scarce than others. This rim soup has a large, center medallion with drapes of beads, and ten smaller medallions on the scalloped panels around the scalloped rim. Each panel is separated by triple vertical ribs.
This bowl measures 9-3/4 inches in diameter and 1-1/2 inches high at the rim. The rim itself is 1-5/8 inches wide.
Macbeth-Evans produced American Sweetheart from 1930 to 1936. Like most of Depression Glass, it is not marked.
There is a 1/16-inch bubble in the bottom of the bowl that can be seen in the photos. This is within the glass, and cannot be felt on either side. There are several expected surface scratches from utensils, but these do not detract from the beauty of this bowl. There are no other condition issues.
