A show-stopping single, large, fully open yellow flower dominates the C5937 design of this dainty teacup and saucer set by Tuscan Bone China. On a gray cobblestone background, the six curled petals of the flower surround the cup ring on the saucer. The ruffled petals stretch up from the bottom of the cup as though the foot is the center, and give the effect of a large, double blossom when the cup is in place. Accented with tiny red enamel stamens and a ring of longer, yellow ones, each butter-yellow petal shows a darker reverse on the curled edges, and has subtle accents of vertical gray lines. A spring green pistil completes the center of the saucer.
The scalloped rims of both the cup and saucer are gold-trimmed and there is a band of gold inside the top of the cup.The foot and the handle are also lined with gold.
The teacup measures 3-3/8 inches in diameter and 2-3/4 inches tall; the foot of the cup is 1-3/4 inches in diameter. The matching saucer is 5-5/8 inches in diameter.
Made by Tuscan sometime between 1947 and 1967, the backstamp is the green underglaze winged crown with the words "Tuscan Fine English Bone China" and "Made in England." The pattern number C5937 is hand written in gold on the saucer, followed by an illegible artist’s mark.
