Here is a lovely antique porcelain pink floral mustache cup from the turn of the last century. This dainty mug is embossed with scrolls around the rim. The lower half of the cup has a fluted twist with embossed beads defining each panel. A delicate, airy motif of pink and yellow flowers with tiny, white, enameled beads for stamens is enhanced by a green lattice vine design. The fancy handle is gilded, and there is a scrolling vine of gold filigree on the mustache piece. A fine gold edging encircles the rim.
The cup measures 3-inches tall. It is 3-1/2 inches in diameter at the top, 2-1/4 inches at the unmarked foot.
Mustache cups were popular during the Victorian era of the late 1800s. There is wear, especially on the gold, consistent with age. The glaze stops just short of the scallops around the foot. There are no chips or cracks.
The delicate porcelain and the airy floral motif suggest a French origin, but this cup could also be German. I appreciate your interest in my items. Please make Maggie Belle's Memories a Favorite Shop to receive updates on new listings!
