Here is the fabulous Holt Howard "Coq Rouge" Red Rooster electric coffee pot from the 1960s! "Coq Rouge" (French for Red Rooster) was a very popular and prolific pattern for Holt Howard. This crowing rooster in shades of bright red, yellow, and orange with black accents was designed to welcome family and friends into the kitchen. The rooster is done in relief on the front of the coffee pot, with the finial on the cover and the base finished with the same matching bright red. The electrical cord is included, and "Plug in only after filling pot with liquid" is stamped in red above the socket.
This cheerful coffee pot measures 7-1/4 inches tall, 8-1/2 inches with the cover. It is 4-1/2 inches in diameter, and 6-3/4 inches across the handle and spout.
The Coq Rouge line was made by Holt Howard, Japan from 1960 to 1964. The pattern was so popular that many textile pieces like placemats and potholders were created to complement the many ceramic items. Despite the numerous items, the coffee pot is a hard-to-find piece.
It is stamped on the bottom in red, "120V 400W Japan ©1962 Holt Howard."
The coffee pot needs some cleaning, it feels as though it sat in the kitchen all these years and accumulated a thin layer of grease. The rooster shows some wear spots, but is still bright and cheery. There is also a pinpoint spot of white showing on the red finial. There is minimal discoloration on the handle. Offered as a vintage display piece, I have not plugged it in to see if it works.
Overall this is a wonderful vintage piece!
