This lovely cobalt blue, red, and gold dinner plate is in the “Majestic” 2888K pattern by Royal Cauldon England. Large poppy-like flowers in Imari colors ranging from red-orange to pink are gathered together in a bouquet in the center of the plate. The large blooms are accented with smaller blossoms and foliage in moss green, rust, and cobalt blue trimmed in gold. A matching garland of flowers in the same reds, blues, and gold rings the scalloped rim of the plate which is also gold-trimmed.
This dinner plate measures 10-3/4 inches in diameter.
It is stamped with a red crown followed by “Royal Cauldon England” in script, then “Est. 1774 Made in England.” The pattern name “Majestic” arches above the crown and the pattern number 2888K is handwritten in red. This mark was used by Royal Cauldon from 1930 to 1950.
There is a shallow, darkened rough spot on the back edge that is not highly noticeable, and a few dark stains on the back of the rim. There are also a smattering of tiny dark spots on the front of the plate above the center flowers. There are minor surface scratches consistent with normal use, and non-discolored crazing covers the plate but does not mar the beautiful design. All of these flaws sound much worse than they are when you hold this truly beautiful plate in your hands.
