This beautiful little Cobalt Blue and Red Floral Imari Style Demitasse Cup and Saucer was made by Colclough Bone China. The intricate Imari style design has a band around the rim with alternating deep cobalt blue windows with a gold diamond-shape overlay enclosing a green flower, and rust-red panels with vignettes of orange-red and yellow flowers. Swags in a complementary bronze color drape below the band and frame more flowers. Each garland is separated by a green flower cameo. Gold embellishments define the bands, each panel, the handle, foot, cup ring, and a narrow band of gold inside the top of the cup.
This diminutive bone china cup and saucer measures 2-1/4 inches tall on a shallow 1-1/4 inch diameter foot. It is 2-3/8 inches in diameter. The matching saucer is 4-3/4 inches in diameter.
Made by Colclough between 1939 and 1954, it is stamped in the same rust red with a circle mark that reads "Colclough China, Made in Longton England, Genuine Bone China." There are also a few stray artist's marks in green and gold.
Other than minor wear on the gold consistent with use, a place where the design goes outside of the lines, and a stray bit of blue on the handle, there are no condition issues.
