This sweet vintage Lefton China covered sugar and creamer set has an all over chintz pattern of deep pink roses and buds with soft green leaves and tendrils. Accented with small pale pink fronds of leaves and buds and set off by gold trim around scalloped rims, it's easy to see why this pattern, Rose Chintz, is a favorite among collectors. The foot and handles on each piece and the finial on the top of the sugar cover is generously gilded.
The dainty covered sugar measures 4-1/4 inches at its widest diameter, 3 inches at the rim, and 5-1/2 across the handles. It is 4-1/2 inches tall, 2-1/2 without the cover. The matching creamer is 3-1/2 inches tall and just under 3 inches in diameter, 4 inches across the spout and handle.
The backstamp on each is the red Lefton mark used from 1949 to 1955, a crown colored in blue and encircled with "Lefton China,Hand Painted, Reg.U.S. Pat. Off."; the item number 912R is stamped in gray below the Lefton mark. The matching creamer also has the worn and illegible foil label still attached.
There is a small chip on the part of the underside of the lid that fits inside and is hidden in the sugar bowl. The sugar is in otherwise good condition. Sadly, the matching creamer has a 2 inch crack that runs from the lip of the spout downward. This crack is well hidden by the chintz pattern, so the creamer is a nice display piece. The condition is reflected in the price of the set. The last photo includes the matching bud vase that I also have offered.
