The ethereal aura evoked by this airy floral design by Copeland Spode perfectly illustrates the name "Fairy Dell" for this three piece cup and saucer set. The Fairy Dell pattern was introduced in 1927 and discontinued in 1971. Each swirled piece has three different floral designs that are in the same color palette of burgundy reds, yellows, violets, and greens on a reddish-pink background of florals & vines. Each design is similar, but not identical, as though the fairies have touched their wands to each section. The cups has the same floral design on the inside with a red vine on the handle.
The cup measures 3-3/4 inches in diameter, with another 3/4-inch for the handle. The cup stands on a 1-5/8 inch diameter foot, bringing the total height to 2 inches. The diameter of the saucer is 5-1/2 inches.
Each piece carries the Red "Copeland Spode England Fairy Dell" with rectangular shield backstamp.
The saucer is heavily crazed but not discolored, and the cup has only minimal crazing.
The set includes a matching 6-1/4 inch bread and butter plate to make a three piece breakfast set. The plate bears the same Red "Copeland Spode England Fairy Dell" with rectangular shield backstamp. There is also a green illegible artist's mark and a red 10. The incised "Copeland Spode" with registration number and incised "A85" is also on the plate.
The plate is heavily crazed and discolored with darker discoloration on the back side.
The price includes all three pieces.
