This is a great set of Mid-Century Federal Glass Cave Man Caricatures Satin Frosted Zombie Glasses. This set of four tumblers is decorated with a stereotypical caveman character set in a tropical scene. With a background of colorful palm trees, giraffes, monkeys, and other creatures, the set tells an amusing story that is certainly not politically correct in today’s world. The first of the four depicts the man lounging in the foreground, while women work and other men play. The other three depict the age-old battle of the sexes. One shows the caveman grabbing the woman by the hair while holding a club in his right hand as a knowing owl calls “Whoo-whoo!” On a third glass, the woman retaliates, hitting him on the head with a mallet while pulling him off-balance by his right leg, while another woman brandishing a club chases a man in the background. The fourth tumbler has the man dragging the woman off by her hair as she holds onto a palm tree, while in the background the other couple runs the other way with the man in pursuit. Though this set may make you cringe, their naughty behavior can’t help but make you laugh as well. The story is different depending on how you choose to display them. Rearrange these glasses for the outcome you prefer!
Each tumbler measures 6-3/4 inches tall and 2-1/2 inches in diameter. These tall bar glasses were made for serving the popular Zombie drink of the era and are also great for Tom Collins cocktails.
Made by Federal circa the 1950s to early 1960s and probably decorated by another company, each is marked with the Federal embossed F in a shield.
With little to no wear in the designs, and no chips or cracks, these tumblers are in wonderful vintage condition.
