This sweet kitten head vase, #37, by Hull Pottery is more often found in pink than the pretty medium blue of this one. She has a wide-eyed, almost animated expression on her face, much like an early cartoon of the 40s. Her big eyes are baby blue, and her button nose and oval mouth are black. There is a faint hint of blush pink on her cheeks. She wears a wide-brimmed floppy hat in medium blue with pale pink flowers on the top. Her right ear peeks through the brim of the hat, while the left is tucked stylishly under the hat brim. She has an oversized blue bow around her neck and an embossed necklace with a circular pendant.
She is 6-3/8 inches tall to the highest point of her hat brim, by 5-1/4 inches across the widest part of her hat. The brim of her hat is 5-inches front to back. The opening is about 2-1/2 inches in diameter, and the base is 4-1/4 inches by 3-inches.
Made by Hull Pottery circa 1955, it is marked with the incised words “Hull U.S.A. ©’55” and the number “37.”
Vintage head vases often have non-discolored crazing, but if this one has any, it is virtually invisible. She will need a gentle cleaning. There is a pinpoint glaze pop on the top of the bow on her right shoulder, and another on the back of her hat that shows white. There is also a stray bit of color here and there, especially on her ear that peeks up through her hat. There are no chips or cracks.
