A tendril of green "California Ivy" loops around the bottom of this coupe shaped fruit bowl from Metlox Poppytrail. The same ivy arches across the matching saucer and the front of the cup on this three piece set. The handle of the cup is brown to match the ivy branch. and has a "knot" at the bottom.
This heavy pottery fruit bowl measures 5-3/8 inches in diameter and 1-3/8 inches deep. The matching cup measures 3-1/2 inches in diameter, 4-3/4 with the handle, and 2-1/2 inches tall, and the saucer is 6 inches in diameter.
The bowl is stamped with the map of California logo with the word "Poppytrail" across it. "California Ivy/Hand Painted" is above the logo, followed by "Pat. Pend./California Made * Metlox." The saucer has the same backstamp, but the wording below the logo is faded out. The cup has a faded green circular backstamp that reads "Poppytrail by Metlox, Made in California." This pattern was made by Metlox from 1946 to 1986.
The bowl has no condition issues. The saucer has a 1/4 inch spot on the back at one of the three stilt marks where the glaze has scraped or flaked off. One of the other stilt marks feels a little rough, so this may be a manufacturing flaw. The bottom of the handle of the cup has a repaired crack running all the way through, and the top of the handle has been glued to the body of the cup. The condition is reflected in the price.
