Love the Gold Moriage Beaded Swags on this Hand Painted Nippon Oval Bowl with the Pink and White Flowers on a Green Rim. This pretty oval bowl has a ruffled rim decorated with a 1-inch band of white five-petaled flowers with yellow centers and edged in deep pink on a background of varying shades of green. From a pale pastel to a deep forest green, some of the leaves are highlighted with gold trim. The floral band is outlined in gold. Gold moriage beads cover the gold lines and the wonderful gold beaded swags draping down from the rim toward the matching gold-trimmed floral motif in the center bottom of the bowl. There is also a line of gold around the scalloped foot. This dish would be wonderful filled with candies or it would make a beautiful vintage pickle dish for your holiday table!
The flared and ruffled rim is 8-inches long and 4-1/2 inches wide. Deeper than a celery, the bowl is 2-inches deep, and 5-inches by 2-3/4 inches below the rim.
Made in Japan circa 1911 to 1921, it is marked in teal blue with the old M in wreath Hand Painted Nippon mark. Someone has added an old piece of tape labeled #67 on the underside.
There is a shallow 1/4-inch chip on the underside of the foot. This is visible but does not impact stability and is not highly noticeable. There is some gold loss, also mainly on the foot. The beads are still of good texture. There are four or five glaze pops around the outside, and shelf wear on the underside of the foot. There are no chips or cracks and the design is bright and clear.
