The Colonial Fluted pattern on this Green Depression Glass Covered Sugar and Creamer by Federal has long been nicknamed “Rope” for its textured border on the inside rim. As the name implies, each piece has wide flutes running down from the rope design on top.
The creamer measures 3-inches tall and 3-5/8 inches in diameter across the top, nearly 4-3/8 inches across the handle and spout. The matching sugar measures 2-7/8 inches tall without the cover and 3-3/4 inches in diameter, 5-inches across the handles. It is about 4-1/2 inches tall with the cover on.
Each of the three pieces is marked with the embossed Federal "F" in Shield on the bottom and under the knob on the lid. Colonial Fluted was made by Federal from 1928 to 1933.
There is a large black spot embedded within the glass in the bottom of the sugar. This looks as though a tangle of air or an unfortunate creature met its demise in the manufacturing process, and no amount of scrubbing will remove it as it is inside the glass. Realizing this is either a curiosity or a dealbreaker depending on your personal preference, I decided to go with curiosity and offer it for your consideration. It is especially fortunate to find the cover intact in glass of this age. There are no chips or cracks in any of the three pieces.
