This absolutely gorgeous Cobalt Blue and Gold Filigree A72 Three-Piece Set is by Paragon Bone China and includes a luncheon plate, bread and butter plate, and a small fruit bowl. A multicolor floral motif on white ground is in the center. The floral design features a large deep pink rose together with a white flower and a purple blossom with appropriate greenery. As the eye travels outward, a braided gold filigree band on a creamy background rings the floral center. The eye is drawn to the real showstopper of each piece, though, the 1-1/8 inch wide cobalt blue scalloped rim with a lavishly detailed gold filigree overlay. A series of intricate gold medallions with a lattice design encircles the scalloped rim and points back toward the center motif. The scalloped edge is also gold-trimmed. This set is truly breathtaking!
The luncheon plate is 8-1/4 inches in diameter. The bread and butter plate is 6-1/4 inches in diameter. The small bowl is 5-5/8 inches in diameter and 1-1/4 inches deep.
The gold and red Royal Arms backstamp reads: "Paragon, Fine Bone China, By Appointment, China Potters to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, Made in England Regd." This mark was used by Paragon for a brief period from 1949 to 1952. A handwritten number “A72” is also on the bowl, along with other artist’s marks. There are also artist’s marks on the luncheon plate.
As in most vintage pieces, there are normal, small surface scratches. These scratches are minimal and do not stand out. Any wear on the gold is also minimal. There are no chips or cracks.
