The Elegant Glass Chintz pattern by Fostoria, here in a crystal Mayonnaise Bowl with the Liner and ladle, has been beloved by many brides over the years. The Chintz pattern is Fostoria's Etch Number 338 on Blank No. 2496 known as Baroque. The Chintz etch is an all over pattern of trailing flowers similar to moss roses, with lots of tiny thorns and mossy leaves. There are also vines of 7 to 10 leaves scattered throughout the pattern. The Baroque blank has a raised stylized shape similar to a Fleur de Lis in four places around the bowl and the underplate.
The mayonnaise bowl is 5-1/4 inches in diameter and 3 inches deep. The ground and polished foot of the bowl is 2-5/8 inches in diameter. The underplate or liner is 7-1/8 inches in diameter. The clear glass small ladle is 5 inches long.
The popular Chintz pattern was made by Fostoria from 1940 to 1973. There is no mark.
The polished end of the spoon handle has a smooth, tiny pinpoint-sized nick. There is no damage to the bowl or the underplate. The dirt smudges in the photos have been removed.
