This diminutive R.S. Germany Cream and Sugar Set includes the creamer, covered sugar, and a tiny tray. In typical Art Deco style, a wide, draped panel design within the mold is set off with angled handles. Done in snow white porcelain, the only decoration is the elegant gold trim around the rims, on the handles, and on the finial of the sugar cover.
Made by the Reinhold Schlegelmilch Company, (R.S.) the white porcelain creamer measures 2-1/4 inches tall, 2-1/2 inches in diameter, and 3-1/4 inches across the handle and spout. The sugar is 2-1/2 inches tall, 3-1/2 inches with the cover and finial, and 3 inches in diameter, 4 inches across the handles. The charming oblong tray is 5 inches by 3-1/2 inches, only large enough to hold the creamer.
Each piece (except the lid) is marked with the "RS Germany" Laurel Wreath and Star in blue underglaze. There is also an incised "Germany" on the bottom of the tray, and the backstamp is black. This mark was used between 1914 and 1945, and the style indicates this set was probably made during the 1930's or early 1940's.
The gold is slightly worn, particularly on the tray, but there is no damage.
