This Copeland Spode Wicker Lane cup and saucer was made between 1933 and 1969. The pattern, "Wicker Lane," consists of a quaint embossed basket weave pattern that rings both the cup and saucer which are also fluted and scalloped. Three sets of floral sprays in rich tones of purples, reds, golds, and greens decorate the saucer, the inside of the cup, and the outside of the cup around the bottom.
The saucer measures 5-1/2 inches in diameter; the cup 3-5/8 inches. The cup is 2 inches deep.
It is marked "Copeland Spode, England, Wicker Lane" with the well-known rectangular shield in brown. There is a green "6" and a six digit red number on the bottom of the cup. The saucer has an incised "58," a green "20," and a six digit red number on the back.
There is an old 1 mm nick on the edge and a few brown stains on the back of the saucer. The cup also has some staining that may be removable and the smallest beginnings of crazing that has not discolored. Shown in the photos, all of this sounds much worse than it looks on this exceptional piece. Indulge yourself enjoying your morning coffee in the fine quality of Spode China!
