Here is a fine quality Flow Blue luncheon plate with gold trim in the beloved Willow pattern by Crown Chelsea China England of Thomas Morris. Featuring the well known monochromatic scene that tells the story of the ill-fated young lovers in deep blue with a bit of flow, the design includes the Willow and other trees, a pair of doves, and a Chinese Temple ringed with a geometric design in the center of the plate. The rim also has a geometric design, finished with a gold edge.
This exceptionally fine quality plate measures 8-1/2 inches in diameter with a slightly raised rim of about 1 inch.
A gold crown and circle mark reads "Crown Chelsea China/Made in England." Thomas Morris used this mark from 1928 until 1941 when the factory merged with the Royal Doulton Group.
There is some flow to the blue, and a slight dip in the rim that would have occurred in the manufacture. There are also two 1/16 inch flecks in the center design that appear to be something stuck in the glaze during the manufacturing process. There are two old, discolored 1/8 inch shallow edge nicks on the back side that do not interfere with the beauty of this plate. All of these flaws sound worse than they are, and only add to the character of this old plate.
