Offered here is another gorgeous Bone China Teacup and Saucer #878 by Aynsley, England, featuring a Gold Leaf Design on an Orange Rim. The 1-1/2 inch wide coral orange border around the saucer and on the inside of the cup is covered with gold trim and an intricate floral design in gold leaf. A multicolor floral design featuring a large pink rose and a purple-tipped tulip decorates the center of the saucer and the center bottom of the cup. The scalloped rims of both pieces are edged with gold, and the handle of the cup is also gilded. A narrow band of gold rings the outside of the teacup and the foot.
The cup is 2-1/8 inches tall, 2-1/2 at the top of the handle, and 3-3/4 inches in diameter across the top with another inch for the handle. It stands on a 1-3/4 inch diameter foot. The matching saucer is 5-5/8 inches in diameter.
Both pieces are stamped with a Green Crown above the Aynsley Banner, followed by "England Bone China." This mark was used by Aynsley circa the 1930s. The pattern number 878 is written by hand on the cup and stamped on the saucer. There appears to be an illegible numeral or letter preceding the 878.
The gold leaf design shows very little wear if any, and there is no damage to this lovely set.
