This Green Depression Glass Covered Preserve Bowl is in the Spiral pattern by Hocking Glass. Spiral has an all over counterclockwise swirl that can be felt on the inside of the glass. The wide base makes this a very stable piece, and the pointed finial gives it a touch of elegance that will set off any table setting.
This lovely Covered Bowl measures 6-inches in diameter with a 4-3/4 inch opening and 2-5/8 inches tall, about 5-1/2 with the cover on.
This pattern was made by Hocking Glass between 1928 and 1930. It is not marked.
The bowl has some slight inner rim roughness, and there is an indentation in the bottom that I believe is a manufacturing flaw. The cover has a couple of spots in the top that can't be cleaned and seem to be inside the glass itself. There is also a small area on the underside of the lid at the same place that will catch your fingernail. There is a curved line in the top at the base of the finial. This does not go through, and appears to be a crease rather than a crack. Other than the inner rim roughness, all of the flaws may have been done in the manufacture of this piece, and make it sound much worse than they appear. The condition is reflected in the price.
