This is a much-sought sweet yellow-orange Napco Ware Teenager Head Vase wearing a bow in her long, side-swept hair. Numbered C-8493, this lovely teen girl wears a yellow-orange bodice with a white peter pan collar. She wears a single pearl drop earring, the other presumably hidden in her hair, and her long, blonde hair is streaked with brown highlights indicative of the Mod Era. Her delicate face features large, heavily lined and shadowed gray eyes to set off her small nose and ruby red lips. A perky yellow-orange bow sits atop a matching ribbon at her center-parted long bangs.
This lovely young lady head vase measures 5-1/2 inches tall on a 3-1/4 by 2-1/4 inch base. The vase opening is about 2 to 2-1/2 inches in diameter.
Issued by Napco circa the late 1950s and 1960s, she has the original red and gold foil label with a large N and the words “Napcoware Import Japan.” She is also stamped “C-8493.”
Most of the head vases of this era show some non-discolored crazing, so I can’t rule it out entirely, but if it exists here it is not detectable under a magnifying glass or blacklight. There is an extra bump of porcelain on the top of her collar at the left that feels rough, and another bump in her hair. She will need a gentle cleaning. Since it is a matte glaze, I won’t attempt to clean it to avoid wear to the glaze, which shows very little wear.
