The embossed, one-handled Porcelain Floral Covered Marmalade Jar is decorated with the muted purple and yellow-green glaze typical of porcelain of the early 20th century. A bouquet of purple flowers on a bed of green leaves decorates the front. The matching cover is finished with the same muted purple gradually fading to white, and the handle finial on the top is a smaller replica of the handle on the side of the jar. The white porcelain spoon is twisted and crudely finished, but has a trio of embossed leaves on the back of the round bowl where it meets the handle.
The jar itself is 2-1/2 inches tall and rests on a 2-inch diameter base. It is about 3-1/4 inches across the widest spot at the handle. It is 3-1/2 inches tall with the cover on, and the spoon is 4-inches long.
Though there are no identifying marks, the style and decoration of the piece dates it to circa the early 1900s. There is a piece of old tape on the bottom.
The little jar has a few small inclusions, like specks of pepper, in the glaze. The cover has a 1-mm edge chip, and the spoon has a 2-mm hairline where the handle meets the bowl of the spoon. All in all, these small flaws add the character of age to this charming old piece.
