Another treasure by Aynsley Bone China is this Yellow Teacup and Saucer in the Fruit pattern, sometimes called Orchard Fruit, and signed by the artist, D. Jones. On a pale yellow ground, the inside of the cup is covered with a beautifully detailed depiction of fruits, including a peach, three purple plums, and blackberries and raspberries in shades of purples and deep pinks to red. The fruit is accented with lifelike greenery and various smaller nuts and fruit. This beautiful work of art is signed " D. Jones" inside of the cup. The outside of the cup is finished in a soft, buttery yellow. The matching saucer has the same yellow ground, and the fruit illustration covers most of the saucer. Here there are two peaches with deep purple grapes, berries, and foliage. The front of the saucer is also signed “D.Jones.” The handle and the foot of the cup are gilded and the scalloped rims of both pieces are also trimmed in gold.

This gorgeous Athens shape teacup is 2-1/4 inches tall, 2-7/8 at the top of the handle, and 4-inches in diameter across the top with another inch for the handle, and stands on a 2-1/8 inch foot. The matching saucer is 5-7/8 inches in diameter.

The back stamp is a Green Crown above the Aynsley Banner, followed by "England Bone China." The pattern number C1036 is handwritten on both pieces along with small artist’s marks. Doris Jones worked for Aynsley from 1938 until 1969, and this mark was used between 1934 and 1939, narrowing the vintage on this gorgeous set to the late 1930s, or perhaps 1940s, as dating back stamps is rarely an exact science.

As in most vintage pieces, there are minor surface scratches that do not mar the design. There is also a 1/8-inch scratch near the rim of the saucer that is deep enough to feel. There are a few tiny flecks like grains of sand in the bottom of the cup under the glaze. The buttery yellow color on the outside of the cup is deeper in some places than others, and one of the kiln marks on the back of the saucer has discolored. All of these are negligible distractions in this exquisite set.
