Offered here is a delicate porcelain embossed gold trimmed Demitasse Cup and Saucer made by Minton, England. A 3/8-inch wide gold band embossed with poppies and leaves encircles the outside rim of the cup and the rim of the saucer. A ring of gold filigree arches and flowers runs just under the gold rim and repeated around the inside rim of the cup. The handle and foot of the cup are also trimmed with gold.
The diminutive cup is 2-1/8 inches tall and just 2-1/4 inches in diameter. The matching saucer is 4-3/8 inches in diameter.
Both pieces are marked with the Red Globe topped with a Crown Minton back stamp. A banner across the globe proclaims "Mintons” in uppercase letters, with “England” below. This mark was used by Minton circa 1891- 1912. A second mark, also in red, depicts a lion standing on his hind feet over the word “Birks,” and holding a gem in his front paws. Birks is a large jewelry store in Montreal, Canada established in 1879 and still in business today. The pattern number “H1110” is hand painted in red.
There is non-discolored crazing that is not highly noticeable, and there is wear on the gold ring along about 1/2-inch around the foot. The dark smudges inside the cup were sticker residue that has been removed, as has the dot of red on the saucer. There are no other condition issues.
