This stunning Alka Gold on Blue Lotus Flower 935 Teacup and Saucer was made in West Germany. Pattern 935 was applied on several solid color backgrounds. This set is decorated with four large stylized lotus blossoms in gold on a turquoise blue background. The saucer has four lobes forming a square shape, each one with a lacy gold lotus blossom, and entirely edged with gold. The matching cup is decorated with the four blossoms on the inside growing from a 3/4-inch wide gold band that covers the bottom of the cup. The raised square foot is edged with gold, as is the top of the angular handle.
The teacup measures 2-3/8 inches tall and 3-7/8 inches in diameter with another inch for the handle. It stands on a 1-1/2 inch square foot. The square saucer is 5-1/4 inches across, 6-1/2 inches across the diagonal.
The backstamp is the Alka Crown Mark with the name "Alka" in script followed by "Bavaria." This mark was used from 1949 until 1958. The pattern number 935 is stamped on both pieces, but the additional artist's marks differ slightly on the two pieces. The cup has "Made in Western Germany" and the initials "B.R." in gold. "Made in Western Germany" on the saucer is nearly worn away, and there is an abbreviation "Sp." and a script mark that may be "Tr."
There is a rosy patina on the gold that is especially evident in the bottom of the cup. There are also surface scratches in this wide gold band. There are no chips or cracks in this display quality set.
