This adorable pair of Lamb Figurines by Cordelia China of Ohio date to the 1940s. Each frolicking lamb wears a pair of applied pink roses at the throat in front of a blue bow. The lamb with the hat has four applied green leaves framing the roses while the other lamb has four painted-on leaves. The lamb's pink bonnet is also trimmed with a white applied rose with a pair of applied green leaves. A painted blue ribbon joins the hat to the bow at her neck. All four hooves are painted the same pale blue as the bow at the neck. Both lambs have a happy facial expression with closed eyes and long painted eyelashes.
Each lamb is 4-1/2 inches tall, and the hat adds another 1/2 inch. Each is 4-1/2 inches long, and the spread of the feet is about 3 inches wide.
These darling lambs were made by Cordelia China of Dalton, Ohio circa 1948. The company closed in 1952.
Each is marked with a black backstamp that reads "© Cordelia China" with a nearly illegible date that may read 1948. One lamb has a glaze slip on the left front hoof. The signature roses and the hat were made and applied by hand, and the hat reflects the careful work of the artist. Unfortunately, the tip of one leaf on the hat has been broken off. There are no other condition issues.
