This Royal Doulton Large 'Granny' Character Jug features a lovable elderly woman. Her wizened face is deeply wrinkled with age, and her enigmatic smile depicts a single tooth. Her charcoal gray hooded cap covers a ruffled white wimple and is mottled with brushes of blues, greens, and lighter grays and tied in a bow. Her salt and pepper gray hair peeks out from under the wimple, and "Granny" is written in green from the skeins of green, blue, and pink "yarn" that is bundled together and forms a kind of ponytail handle at the back of her head.
Made by Royal Doulton between 1941 and 1955, this Bone China character jug measures nearly 8-inches from the tip of her nose to the back of the handle. She is 5-1/8 inches in diameter, and about 6-1/8 inches tall.
The bottom bears the familiar Royal Doulton lion and crown over circle backstamp in green underglaze with an uppercase A at the left. The A indicates the production years.
With only expected wear on the bottom, there are no condition issues.
