Old antique gold color articulated fish box. This piece is a Besamim (spice) box for Havdala (antique Judaica), Overall nice shape with patina. Clasp works great to open and close this piece. This fish is, at the very least, .800 silver. Probably higher percentage with a gold wash over it. There are no markings to be found. The Fish is a very good example with the Fish's entire body being articulated with detailed scale designs. The Head hinges open to reveal a small compartment, which would have been for spices, but currently being used as a THIMBLE HOLDER. (Thimble included) I have not found any hallmarks, and according to the previous owner it does not test for Sterling but slightly lower silver content. Thus piece was acquired from an European auction of a Sewing Museum. The spice box could use a good cleaning. I do not polish pieces so the buyer may polish to desired level.
