#207 Green Mountain Railway, Mt Desert, ME. No photographer's imprint on this mount, but I have verified that this view is from Bradley's later series of Mt Desert views. [Add'l Info] The Green Mountain Railway was constructed in 1883 to accommodate the growing numbers of tourists who journeyed to the highest peak on the island. Before then, the only way up was a bumpy carriage ride or a long hike. A large new Summit House was erected that same year to replace the small structure that had previously existed. But a year after it's construction, the new Summit House was destroyed by fire, only to be replaced by an even larger structure in 1885. By 1893 competition from the carriage road forced the Railway into bankruptcy, and the Summit House was razed in 1896. About VG- to VG condition Slt edgewear or roughness, slt light, slt dirty.
