Ocean House (written on back of mount in old script pencil). J.A. Williams, Photographer, Newport, RI. Joseph B. Weaver built the first Ocean House in 1844, but it was destroyed by fire during the height of its second season. It had been so successful during its brief existence that Admiral Weaver decided to build another Ocean house during the winter of 1845. This hotel, pictured here, survived until September 10, 1898, when once again it was destroyed by fire. About VG+ to Exc- condition. Vslt to slt light, vslt to slt edgewear, vslt dirty.
