Minton Covered Sauce Tureen with Under Plate
This is a beautiful piece of Staffordshire Blue Transfer China by Minton. The Under plate measures 5 7/8” x 8 1/8” and it would be a great piece all by itself even if the tureen didn’t exist. The tureen is 6 ½” x 4 ¼” and stands 3 ¼” tall. It has an applied handle on each end, paw feet and even has the pattern on the inside. The cover is 5” x 3 3/8” x 2” tall. With the cover in place the tureen stands about 5” tall.
The tureen body and the under plate both have the mark that have a winged dragon type figure above a scrolled cartouche. Within the cartouche is “Chinese Marine” and below the cartouche is “Opaque China”. There is a cursive M in the bottom of the scroll. The tureen dates from 1822 to 1833. The motif includes scenes with pagodas by a lake, people and boats as well as scrolls of flowers all over. One thing that is on the pieces that I have not seen on other pieces is gold enameling on the handles of the cover, the tureen and the under plate and paws.
The tureen, cover and under plate are in very good condition. There are no cracks, chips, flakes, hairlines or repairs in any of the pieces.
