Antique Wooden Working Decoy – Ca 1910
This antique working decoy comes from a barn in Rhode Island, part of a treasure trove of decoys found while cleaning out the barn. The decoy measures 13 1/4” long x 5 3/4” wide and is about 7” tall. The head is solidly attached and retains most of its original paint and metal eyes. There is some green and white very old repainting on the body over the original. The carving is very distinctive and not a smooth even surface. There is a lead weight on the bottom and an old split started on the bottom of the body. There are a few nails put in to hold the head in place on the body and very old nicks, scrapes and gouges from the years. There are no markings on the body for me to use to identify the maker, but all considered, a very unique bird.
