A wonderfully made double head panther vintage cocktail ring in yellow and white gold - a delightful vintage piece. One head plain except for its ruby eyes, the other pave-set with 24 brilliants which are in total approx. 0.2 carat , also with ruby eyes. Weight :11.5 grams. 1980 to 1985. There is a maker's mark but, unfortunately, it is somewhat illegible. Probably , of Italian origin. Per the Swiss jeweller's receipt for this piece :
" Ring motif "two panthers", 11.5 grams, 750 gold/18 carat, with 24 brilliants (total approx. 0.2 carat; Top Wesselton//Wesselton-Very small Inclusions), and 4 rubies, ring size 57" ( Europe ), 8 ( USA /Canada), P 1/2 ( UK/Australia ).
This ring evokes memories of the Art Deco era Paris but it is , as stated above, of later manufacture.
The ruby is considered one of the four precious gemstones along with emeralds, diamonds and sapphires. The price of rubies is determined by its colour, clarity, cut and carat (weight); with the colour being the most important for rubies; the brighter the red the more valuable, the best colour is considered to be a medium-dark tone. In terms of clarity if there are little or no inclusions in the stone then it are more clarity. The ruby is the traditional birthstone for July and rubies are popularly thought to have healing powers aiding with recharge of energy levels.
