Antiques , vintage items and collectibles for every taste.
Wonderful items at realistic prices.
An early vintage , signed in pencil, lithograph of a retriever dog at work by Boris Riab ( 1898 - 1975 ) and published by Ch. Ducher of Paris.
We presently are also selling in our shop another Riab lithograph with a similar theme.
Riab was born on November 1, 1898 Boris Riabouchinsky, in Moscow, Russia. Due to his families finances, Riab studied at many different art schools in Moscow. In 1917, Riab's family fled Russia after the Bolshevik Party gained power. Pursuing hunting and sport, he traveled through out the world before he settled in France in 1927. It was then he changed his last name from Riabouchinsky to Riab.
Riab mostly painted watercolors of hunting dog portraits and wild fowl. He also printed limited edition engravings of studies of setters, spaniels, retrievers, ducks, pheasants, pointers, partridges, snipes, and woodcocks.
Size : 55.5 cm. ( 21 27/32" ) x 41 cm. ( 16 9/64" ). The wooden frame is 2 cm. ( 0 25/32" ) wide.
Weight : 1, 525 g. ( 3 Lbs. 6 Oz. ).
Condition : good, the frame is a veneered piece with a few very minor flaws - also, a few very small ' spots' of foxing here and there - not off putting at all - greatly highlighted by the camera! There is some reflection from the glass!
