Here is a beautiful, delightfully coloured, good sized, silver ( sterling 925 ) guilloché enamel butterfly by the leading Norwegian silversmith, David-Andersen, Vintage ,1950s. This design has been one of the company’s most popular, and the butterfly has been produced in a myriad of colours and several multicolours, as well as several sizes. The butterfly is made of sterling silver and treated with a gold wash (vermeil). It is then guillochéed (given the pattern seen through the enamel) and finally coated with a coloured transparent enamel.
David Andersen jewelry is a family operation that was founded in 1896 and has been handed down through the family ever since then.
The designs are very high quality and also very collectible, particularly among collectors of Scandinavian silver jewelry. Designs are the work of many silversmiths but all have only the David Andersen mark on them.
David Andersen jewelry is famous for their Basse-taille leaf pins which were made in most jewelry styles - bracelets, earrings, necklaces, brooches and sets.
