Karl Himmelstoss was born 07.12.1878 in Breslau and died in March 1967 in Munich. He did design work from 1912 to 1938 for Rosenthal. Rosenthal porcelain was made at the factory established in Selb, Bavaria, in 1880. Karl Himmelstoß was a very famous German sculptor of architectural and small sculptures. Amongst his clients were Heinrich, Hutschenreuther, KPM and Nymphenburg.
Himmelstoß worked for Rosenthal from 1912 to 1938 and designed the second highest number of figurines, after Ferdinand Liebermann in the founding years of the art department in the factory in Selb. His prominent works are »Verliebt« (faun and butterfly), »Festreigen« (foot of table-lamp) and »Aschenschale mit Türke«.The factory is still making fine-quality tablewares and figurines today.
