Saint Esprit translates as the Holy Ghost and is a dove shaped religious symbol. Popular in the late eighteenth century as a religious icon. These were particularly popular in France. This is a good example as it not only has clear paste but coloured as well.
The piece represents the Holy Spirit descending to earth bringing peace. Formed as a dove flying down from a halo crown holding olive branches in its beak. This was probably made in France in the middle to late 19th century and is of a pattern that can be seen in most Catholic countries on the Continent of Europe. The metal mounting is of silver and has tested positively therefor. The piece does bear a stamp/mark but it is somewhat indistinct!
